By popular demand, I am happy to present the return of the Box Lacrosse League predictions! Now that Valley has wrapped up its fall ball schedule, I have freed up valuable time to carefully evaluate this year’s teams. Having spent every second of the last two game nights – yes even while playing and reffing – analyzing every aspect of every player, I now feel comfortable picking the weekly winners.
So without further delay, let’s get down to some serious work.
Game 1 – Tropics vs Cyclones
This is the game of the season – so far – except maybe last week’s game between the Cyclones and the Macaques… Or the opening bought between the Tropics and the Macaques… Ok, so this is definitely one of the two most anticipated match ups involving the Cyclones so far this season. No, wait. This is, without a doubt, the most anticipated game involving both the Tropics and Cyclones at this point in the season. Absolutely.
The Cyclones enter this game with two fairly sizable victories under their belt. Frankly they are a force to be reckoned with every week. Having a focused Couch in net makes them even more formidable.
The Tropics are undefeated with a tie and big win over Singha last week. The younger team is no doubt eager to tackle the mighty Clones. With numerous seniors on the team this season, they are hungry for the league championship. If they can move the ball successfully and provide Marcum with defensive cover, then they have a legitimate shot to bring the Cyclones down to Earth.
Game 2 – Macaques v Singha
The Macaques came out strong against the Cyclones last week, but suffered from a lack of depth as the game wore on. On paper, this is a no brainer; the Macaques should win. But just as the “Curse of Blay” affected this team last week, expect some absences for the second week in a row. We already know that Lowe is out indefinitely due to an injury in Sunday’s Valley game. Clark is week-to-week, depending on his work situation. Nobody knows what is going on with Meadows – not even Meadows. Hanks has been a bright spot in goal, so should Meadows actually show up there could be a controversy for Woodcock.
In light of the “sure bet” pick above, I am going to go out on a limb on this one. I am banking on a near-full turnout for Singha and high absenteeism for the Macaques. Besides, if I don’t pick my own team to win in the season’s first wave of predictions, what kind of message does that send?
It is worth mentioning at this point that I am open to guest predictors! Part of the fun of our local lacrosse programs is the ability to experience total immersion. Our guys not only play in the games, they also officiate them and promote the sport as a whole. Another component of this is providing predictions and reflections. It can be something as simple as emailing me your picks, with or without justification!
Bonus Prediction: I will remember to charge my camera for tonight’s games. But I will forget to put it in my bag.
