Last December the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association held its first winter skills camp at the Soccer House on the south side of Des Moines. While the overall turnout was good with around 30 boys in grades 3-9, there was room for improvement. The time slot (8:00-9:00 pm) was less than favorable and the space was […]
The second week of youth lacrosse games is in the books. Sadly we’ve had our second and third forfeits of the season, which is a result of attendance issues. Considering this is a seven-on-seven league and teams have plenty of roster depth, this is a frustrating problem. Junior Division Bayhawks 6, Rattlers 0 National Win, […]
My apologies for the lack of information lately. This season really got away from me with the busier head coach requirements and a few other things that complicated the situation. I am currently working on digging myself out and hope to be back on track by the end of next week. The Central Iowa Lacrosse […]
The Dubuque Lacrosse Association will be holding a free clinic this Saturday at the Graber Athletic Center at Loras College. Coaches from Loras and the University of Dubuque will be on hand to provide instruction.
As November winds down and we rush headfirst into the holiday season, the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association is happy to offer a few opportunities to get your lax on.
It’s winter. It’s Iowa. There is no lacrosse to be found. But Hark! What is that which my eyes perceive on the horizon?
Since I live and work in Des Moines, my primary focus is on developing lacrosse in the city and is suburbs. My organization is the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association to reflect this commitment. But as we continue to grow here, I cannot help but feel responsible for the growth (or lack thereof) in other parts […]
The Central Iowa Lacrosse Association’s 2012 Youth Lacrosse Program officially got underway last week following an opening week introductory clinic. With roughly 90 boys and a dozen or so girls in grades 4-8 (2011-12 school year) participating this summer, lacrosse is truly growing in the Des Moines metro. The second week of team practices and […]
Coach News Three members of the Valley coaching staff (including myself), a boys youth coach from Carlisle, and a youth girls coach from Johnston attended the US Lacrosse Level One Coaching Education course in Kansas City on Saturday. It was a good opportunity to discuss the evolution of both youth programs and how to integrate […]
The location of the January 21, 2012 Level 1 coaching clinic in Overland Park/Kansas City has been changed. I am attending this clinic and am willing to carpool. I have room for two more riders. Contact me if you are interested. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF LOCATION FOR THE LEVEL 1 COACHES CLINIC Site Information […]
As part of my mission to expand lacrosse in Iowa, I try my best to stay on top of education opportunities in our region. I about referee training last February. In September I posted information about the online coaching courses offered by US Lacrosse. According the US Lacrosse website, Level One online courses are still […]
Continuing on with the reaffirmation of goals for the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association, the remainder of the new objectives are listed below. These objectives represent a renewed focus on developing lacrosse in Central Iowa. Objective 1 – Create A Stronger Boys Program Refer to Central Iowa Lacrosse – Year 3 Part 3 for information on […]
After taking a trip down memory lane and examining where we stand on my original goals, it’s time to look towards the future. I want to begin this year with a renewed focus. Youth lacrosse and development are moving to the forefront starting this year. Efforts on continuing and expanding adult participation will take a […]
Welcome back to my reflection on the first three years of lacrosse in Central Iowa. It has been a long journey, but the road ahead is still wide open! Last year I examined the goals I established in 2008. Here is a brief recap (2008 in red, 2010 in blue): My goal is simple yet […]
-Valley- This fall season has been shorter than most years, but it seems like we got a lot accomplished. With just six practices, we knew the boys would be fresh for the Mid Fall Classic. But we also knew that such a short practice schedule would put a lot of pressure on the new comers. […]
I was just informed of an upcoming clinic in Lincoln, NE next Saturday, October 15. The professionally run clinic will be held alongside the Mid-Fall Classic tournament that Valley will be competing in at Abbott Sports Complex in Lincoln. There is an $80 registration fee to participate in this all-day clinic run by NCAA D1 and Major League Lacrosse players. […]
Alan Temperly started the Dubuque Lacrosse Association in March, 2010. Prior to relocating to Northeast Iowa, Temperly was the president of the Waterford Lacrosse Association in Michigan. The DLA works with True Lacrosse and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville lacrosse club to provide lacrosse opportunities in the Dubuque metro area. ______________________________________________________________ The Dubuque Lacrosse Association will […]
-Valley- The Tigers started their second week of fall practice last night. With other fall sports underway, attendance was fairly bleak. Luckily we still had enough bodies to split into two groups which allowed for more fundamental work with the new players. While the returning players worked on schemes, the newbies focused on concepts like […]
Well, last night’s fall ball clinic did not go as well as planned. A few people had requested the clinic and never responded. A few others told me they were attending and did not. Unfortunately we only had a handful of laxers in attendance. My well thought out practice plan was for naught… On the […]
-Valley- Last night was the first fall practice for the Valley Tigers. The overall turnout was impressive. A good portion of the returning players were in attendance and ready to go. Goalie Graham Taylor was in impressive form last night as he looks to accept the challenge of transitioning from JV to varsity play. Although […]
